What is sickness? ðŸ¤§

Every part of the human body, from organ systems and organs all the way down to individual cells, is incredibly structured and organized to work together in harmony. No part works alone, and everything is connected.

For example, the cells in your fingertips send chemical messages to your brain hinting at danger when a thorn pricks your finger. The brain interprets this as pain.

The extraordinary balance at all levels within the body is called homeostasis. All parts of the body work to maintain this balance.

For instance, the human body’s immune system works to ensure all threats (antigens) to the body’s wellbeing are promptly isolated and removed. Anything that undermines the body’s homeostasis is a potential threat and can trigger an immune system response.

These include industrial chemicals, some drugs, smoke, allergens, as well as things found in nature which are incompatible with the human body, such as toxins found in some mushrooms. There are plenty of things that are natural and found in nature, yet harmful to the human body. These commonly enter the body through the mouth or nose but may also enter through the skin upon contact.

Therefore, sickness can be understood as the condition of having a major or minor bodily imbalance, causing increased stress to your immune system and other organ systems as they try to maintain your homeostasis.
